THE GENERAL INTEREST COOPERATIVES: A CHALLENGE FOR COOPERATIVE LAW
Abstract
Thelegalrecognitionofcooperativesbeganinthe19thcenturyanddevelopedinthebeginningofthe20thcentury.Cooperatorsinmostcountriesstruggledtogetlegalstatusforcooperatives,notbecausetheywerekeentoberegulated,butsothattheywereabletoobtainpublicsupport.Internationalorganisationshavesincerecognisedthatcooperativelawisthebasicingredientneededtobuildcooperativefriendlypolicies.
