The objective of this paper is to analyze the economic cooperation between Russia and Africa that, although old, has undergone major developments since the 1990s. The mode of implementation of the Russian presence on the continent differs in many respects from that of traditional partners namely France, Europe, and USA and to a lesser extent Canada. The documented review of the principles of this cooperation, its characteristics, its main results and its perspectives help provide an answer to a question that comes up repeatedly in studies on whether Russia is a threat or an opportunity for Africa.
